Akaroa is a small town (population 700) located on New Zealand's South Island. It is a popular cruise port in New Zealand.
The attractive community is located 81 km southeast of Christchurch. Travel time from Akaroa to Christchurch is approximately 1 hour 20 minutes.
Cruise ships anchor in Akaroa Harbour. Passengers are then transported by tender boat to the wharf in Akaroa.
Not required. The tender wharf (Main Wharf) is located at the town centre.
Coach service is available between Akaroa and Christchurch.
Akaroa is a picturesque town with plenty to enjoy. Attractions include Akaroa Beach, Akaroa Museum and the Giant's House. There are also nature walks, one of which leads to a scenic lookout that overlooks the community.

Due to the fairly long distance and transfer time required to travel between Akaroa and Christchurch, we recommend that you enjoy your time in Akaroa rather than travelling to Christchurch.
