Guide to Cruise Ports and Terminals
The cruise port that serves Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) is called Phu My. It is located approximately 130 kilometers (80 miles) from the city. Travel time is approximately 80 minutes.
The cruise terminal at Phu My is located in a commercial port area, far away from attractions. It is consequently advisable to purchase a tour directly from your cruise line.
A shuttle service is sometimes provided to the small town of Ba Ria which is located approximately 15 kilometers (10 miles) from the terminal.
There is a fast ferry (hydrofoil) that runs between the port and Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon). Unfortunately, it is not always reliable.
Tourist attractions include Notre Dame Church, the Post Office Building, Reunification Palace, War Remnants Museum and the Cu Chi Tunnels.
The currency of Vietnam is the Dong, however, US dollars are widely accepted. There are approximately 16,000 Dong to 1 USD.
The weather in Ho Chi Minh City is hot and humid throughout the year. The monsoon period runs from May through October.
